The other morning on BART I watched an unwashed, bearded 30-something street merchant with a metal pushcart full of shit throw himself at the closing doors of the traincar as it prepared to pull away from the station platform. It was, in contemplative reflection, the highlight of my week. I'm sure part of it was the thud his torso made as it collided with the metal exterior. And I'm sure another part of it was the sound of the profanities he was spewing being choked off by a sudden lack of wind--a product, of course, of his fateful decision to hurl himself toward a large commuter train. But I think what really gave it the funny was the fact that his tirade and human missile experiment were induced by a 60 year old matronly, black woman telling him to "take a shower you filthy hippy motherfucker."
